First Day of Class September 19, 2021
For the first day of class, this will be a time for you to get to know your class. Below is a sample lesson plan in which you can incorporate the suggested activities.
9:30 Welcome and opening prayer
9:40 Teacher Introductions
9:50 Have You Filled a Bucket Today?
A copy of the book, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" will be given to each class if you would like to read to your class.
A link to the right is provided so you can listen to the story of the original book "How Full is Your Bucket".
Use the laminated sheet provided to explain how we can all fill our buckets.
Attach the handles (green pipe cleaners) to your buckets. These will serve several purposes:
Keep track of how full your bucket is by writing kind deeds down on a slip of paper ( blue slips will be provided for you)
Name Cards to be used for every class so both teachers and children learn each other's names.
The handle will remind us of what season we are in for the liturgical year.
10:00 a.m. Getting-to-Know-You BINGO
Each child will get a BINGO card.
How to play:
Play like regular BINGO using the calling cards and BINGO chips.
When someone has BINGO they read off and complete the BINGO squares that tell more about him/her.
Keep playing until everyone has had to chance to read their BINGO squares.
10:20 Introduce the curriculum
We will not hand out books and folder this week but rather show them the sample of what they will receive: the backpack, bible, and folder with the resources they will be using for the year. Highlight some of the things you like about the curriculum i.e. the Bible, activities etc.
10:30 Decorate your buckets
Ideas of how children can decorate their buckets:
You can ask them where did they see God this summer and draw it on their bucket.
They can decorate their buckets with their favorite things, like sports, hobbies, places, etc.
